What Is Reiki? Understanding Energy Work and Its Benefits Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a form of energywork, resdiscovered by Mikao Usui in the late 1800's in Japan. He trained and attuned other Reiki Masters, one of whom brought Reiki to the West in the 1940's. Reiki can be experienced in many ways. You can receive it, or, you can be attuned to Levels I, II or III and offer Reiki to others.
Since the original discovery and practice of Reiki, there have been many variations of Reiki channeled by Reiki Masters from Archangels, Ascended Masters or other high spiritual beings and guides. These are similar approaches in that they use symbols, attunements and distance healings, but they are not part of the original Usai Reiki system. These newer styles of Reiki are intended for specific types of healing (such as working with the chakras with Kundalini Reiki). Karuna Reiki® and Terai Mai™ are other examples of these newer systems.
Vital Life Force The
Reiki system relies on the
ancient belief in the vital life force energy, referred to as chi, that
flows
through all things. This life force runs throughout pathways in the
body called meridians, nourishing organs and cells and supporting vital
functions. Reiki itself is a richer, more profound source of
this energy which influences the flow of chi in the meridians, the
health and balance of the chakras and on even more subtle energy planes.
All Illness Begins at the Energetic Level This basic tenet is shared by Reiki, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda. When the body's subtle energy system is disrupted by negative thoughts, feelings, actions, or injury, illness and disease can result.
The Six Stages of Disease According to Ayurveda, there are six stages of disease, with the fifth and sixth stages being where a diseases can be specifically diagnosed. This is Western medicine's forte. Ayurveda (and TCM) focus on shifting patterns of disharmony at the subtle levels before disease can occur. Reiki is said to work at the "blueprint" level of being to promote free circulation of energy and to support the vitality of the energy fields, which in turn support the health of the organs and tissues of the body.
Receiving Reiki In Person A Reiki practitioner's hands
hover just above a person's body, sensing the affected areas and
infusing them with positive flow. This raises the energetic vibration
and breaks up the negativity to heal, clear and restore the natural
flow of the life force.
Then, the Reiki practitioner, trained to access and
serve as a channel for the life energy, places his or her hands on or just
above the client's body and uses a passive touch that some clients
experience with warmth or tingling. The hands remain in position for
3-5 minutes, alternately covering 10-12 positions over the body.
In a Kundalini Reiki-only session, hands are placed on the receiver's shoulders for 3-5 minutes and the Reiki energy flows in to balance and energize the chakra system.
Reiki can be sent at a distance as well. To find out more about this, click here.
Attunements are different than just receiving the energy. When you're attuned to Reiki, you are then able to do Reiki for yourself and others. To be attuned to Usui Reiki requires in-person contact and the study of several symbols. To be attuned to Kundalini Reiki, you can easily receive it via distance. You don't have to be physically present with the person attuning you. To find out more about attunements, click here for Usui Reiki and for Kundalini Reiki attunements, click here.
Reiki is Available to Everyone Yes, it's true that
Reiki energy is available to everyone, even without attunement.
However, being attuned to the energy is analogous to the difference
between hauling buckets of water individually from the nearby river to
pour into your bathtub, versus just turning the tap and filling your
bathtub that way.
I worked with energy in profound ways years
before I was attuned, and discovered that attunement made the energy
much more accessible. What Exactly is Reiki?
"Reiki is the force behind Yin and Yang. It is the whole and complete energy before the separation into duality. It connects with and permeates everything. This vital flowing energy is the basis for the continuity of life as we know it." 1
Reiki is:
- A powerful natural system that unlocks and releases the flow of chi within the receiver and the giver, that goes to where it's most needed.
- A way to synchronize and energize acupressure meridians while gently balancing and aligning the energy systems of the body.
- A support for medical procedures which neither conflicts nor interferes with treatment.
- A vital means for releasing stress. Accummulated tension is released in a gentle and controlled way, preventing the deepening of tension into the Mind/Body complex.
- A way to control anxiety; it gently calms the mind and emotions.
- Safe to use and always available;
- A connection between you and an infinite supply of intelligent, vital life energy.
Reiki is NOT:
- A religion or cult;
- A form of psychic healing or psychic surgery;
- A substitute for medical treatment;
- A laying-on-of-hands;
- A form of mind control or hypnosis;
- Imagination or wishful thinking. Reiki is available at all times, regardless of your emotional, mental or physical state of health. Imagination and positive attitude are all good; Reiki does not depend upon visualizations or wishes to flow from the giver to the receiver.
- Only for when you are ill or injured. Reiki reduces stress and brings high level wellness by working with the whole person.
Kundalini Reiki Kundalini Reiki works primarily with the chakra system to support health in the body. There are three attunements offered.
The first attunement is done free of charge so you can see what it's like. Then, if you want, you can receive Attunements Two and Three for a total of $33 (for now, offer good for residents of the United States only.) It opens and enlarges the Heart chakra and activates the palm chakras. Kundalini Reiki and Usui Reiki are easily combined, creating a powerful healing experience. Reiki Sessions I offer Reiki-only sessions, and Reiki plus Acupressure sessions. Distance Reiki sessions are also available. For all pricing and rate information, click here.
