What is the difference between acupressure and acupuncture?

Acupuncture is excellent in treating acute injuries and conditions because the needles stimulate multiple points simultaneously and can move energy more intensely than finger pressure. Although many people find this method relaxing, some do not because of the possible strong pinching sensation of needles on congested points, and because our reptilian brain interprets anything sharp and metallic going into the skin as an invasion or attack, generating a stress response, even if the higher mind knows better.

Acupressure is excellent for re-educating the body about the optimum flow of chi (energy) through the meridian pathways. Also, the practitioner can literally bring in more chi to the body and direct it through the meridians, nourishing the deep energy core. Usually, points held with acupressure are not held for as long as with needles, but the practitioner can sense directly when the point(s) have cleared.

What is Kundalini Reiki?
This is a new form of Reiki channeled by a Usui Reiki Master that works primarily to open, strengthen and expand the chakra system. Attunements to all three levels can be given easily by distance or in person.  There is only one symbol to learn, and no complex, long-term study required.  It's always helpful to have a good understanding of the chakras in order to explain the energy better to your clients, but it's not necessary for you to know about them to receive the energy.  Because people are often skeptical (and rightly so) about receiving attunements long distance, I offer the Level One attunement for free.  It prepares the chakra system for subsequent attunements, if you so choose, and you get a nice chakra cleansing and tune-up, along with a 40+ page ebook manual explaining what you need to know.

What are consultations like?
Are long-distance session available?

It begins when you sign up for your free 20 minute consult and you download your free ebook "Ayurveda Basics" which includes a Dosha Test. This ebook is about 5 pages. Print out the pages, complete the questionnaire, and find out the dominant dosha of your physical constitution.

During the free 20 minute consultation, we determine if this integrated approach can help you, and if so, set your first appointment.  At your first session, we'll get a better idea about how many subsequent appointments, if any, may be necessary to attain your goals.  If you purchase a series of appointments ahead of time, you receive a discounted rate.

In-Person Sessions
If you live in or near Davis, CA, we can do in-person sessions at my home office.

Office hours are:
Mondays, 9 - 5
Tuesdays through Fridays, 10 - 6
Saturdays, 11 - 4.
Sundays are also sometimes available.

In-office sessions can include Acupressure, individual yoga instruction, Reiki and intuitive healing energywork in addition to exploring Ayurvedic, TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and Five Element Theory concepts as they relate to your current concerns.

Sessions can be anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours, depending on the focus of the session. You can do a single session, or do a series of four sessions within a four week period for a more in-depth approach. Then we re-evaluate.

Long Distance Consultations
If you don't live nearby, we can do telephone consultations. These last anywhere between 30 - 45 minutes. Obviously, no bodywork would be included as part of the sessions, but long-distance Reiki and intuitive work can be done, and I can make recomendations as to what bodywork might be effective.

What's the difference between guided visualization and hypnotherapy?
I offer guided visualization which helps you to gain insight into your patterns and imbalances.  It doesn't work as deeply as hypnotherapy which accesses the subconscious and which is often used to modify behavior (such as stopping smoking, losing weight, etc.).  Guided visualization is deeply relaxing, enhances the Body/Mind connection and promotes enhanced self-understanding.

You used to offer massage.  Why is your massage practice closed to new clients?
After over 15 years of doing full-time massage, my body is tellling me it's time to refocus my practice.  I have always been strongly drawn towards subtle healing methods to help people rebalance chronic conditions by addressing patterns of disharmony at the four main levels of being.

I'm now making that the main focus of my practice and use a combination of acupressure/TCM, Ayurveda, intuitive somatic balancing techniques, coaching/consulting, assessment tools and stress management education to support the energywork.

I have limited my massage-only sessions to my current long-term clients and now do about 6-10 massages per week.  As these clients move away or move on, I will not replace them with new massage clients.  It would be accurate to say I'm retiring from massage-only sessions by attrition.

Why do you limit your clientele to women only?
I find my interest drawn to imbalances and chronic conditions suffered mostly by women.  I now work out of my home office, and this adds to my decision to focus on women's health issues.  If previous male clients are interested in receiving acupressure and Reiki and working with yoga, I will continue to work with them; however, I'm decreasing my massage practice to just a handful of female clients so I can preserve the health and integrity of my hands and joints.

Why don't you list your office address?
Because I work out of my home, I must be careful about giving out personal information in settings accessed by the general public.  Once I've had phone contact with a client and an appointment has been set, the address and directions for getting here are given.

What's your home office like?
My home is in a quiet neighborhood in East Davis.  As you enter, you'll walk into the living room which is now a dedicated yoga and reception area space.  The treatment room is quiet, clean and cozy.  For those paying via credit cards, I have an administrative room.  I do have two beautiful cats; however, they're shy so you're not likely to see them, and they aren't allowed into the treatment room.
